Angus smirked. “You and your empath abilities…” he murmured, looking at her. “I’m just feeling a bit down, that’s all. Nothing to worry about, I’ll be all right in the morning after a good night’s sleep.”

“I’ll come to you,” Angus’ smile returned and he reached out to place his hand on her shoulder. “Thank you, Erin. And as for tomorrow…” he sighed. “I know it was a lot to ask of you.”

“It’s fine, honestly,” Erin smiled at him. “I don’t mind. And you really don’t have to do anything special to thank me for it either. I’m just glad to be able to help you. We’ll get through it though, don’t you worry,” she gave his hand a light pat of reassurance.

“I’m sure we will,” Angus nodded. “But I’d still like to do something more to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve gone above and beyond to surpass my expectations, and I don’t think I’ve thanked you enough to be honest. And,” he added quickly, cutting the girl off from being able to protest, “it’s not just a matter of doing something because I have to, it’s a matter of doing something because I want do. And I won’t take no for an answer,” his smile broadened. “So be prepared for a pleasant surprise coming your way some time in the not so distant future.”

Erin rolled her eyes but her smile remained intact. “I still don’t think it’s necessary, but thank you,” she replied, leaning forward to give him a hug. “Good night, Angus. And sweet dreams. I’ll see you in the morning.”

Angus closed his eyes and returned the hug, silently revelling in the girl’s affection. “Thank you, sweet dreams to you too. Don’t let Bailey keep you up too late,” he pulled away and smiled at her.

Angus smirked. “I won’t,” he echoed, pushing his already ajar door open even further and stepping into the room. “Good night, little sister,” he cast the girl with one last smile before closing the door and turned around when he heard Ella meowing at him. “No story tonight, Lady Ella,” he said to the cat, scooping her up from the floor on his way to the bed and sitting down. “No. What we’re going to do tonight is discuss the special surprise I’m going to plan for Erin,” his smile widened. “And I’ll be making sure it’s a damn good one at that…”
